¿Se han fijado que ahora todo es “normal”?  ¿Cómo lo pasaste?  Normal. ¿Qué estabas haciendo?  Nada, normal. ¿Cuál es tu relación con tu familia? Normal. ¿Y el trabajo, la escuela, la vida? Normal.

Y, ¿qué rayos es el dichoso “normal”? Pues, no sé si lo han cambiado, pero hasta hace poco normal era:  lo que sigue o se ajusta a normas o reglas conocidas y aceptadas.

Por ejemplo, cuando hablamos de que el perro ladra, pues eso es normal.  Lo anormal sería que hablara.  O que el teléfono suena, pues, como decía un compañero de trabajo, para eso tiene timbre, que suene.  Bueno, ahora también los teléfonos ladran, lloran como bebés y hacen otros sonidos.  Ahí está, eso también es normal.  Lo anormal o raro se convierte en normal, con sólo cambiarlo, desearlo o designarlo.  Tiene lógica, lo normal es lo que sigue la norma.  El problema es determinar cuál es la norma.  Además, para que nos entendamos la norma tiene que ser conocida y aceptada.

Pero todavía me pregunto qué quiere decir una persona cuando se le pregunta cómo está y contesta:  Normal.  Y cuando uno lo observa bien, como que no se ve muy normal que digamos.  Claro, eso es si aplicamos que normal es lo que se ajusta a normas o reglas.  Pero, ¿por qué no contestar:  “Bien, gracias.” o “Mal, gracias.”?  Perdón, “gracias” tampoco se usa.  Ejem, normal.

Realmente estoy confundida o quizás equivocada.  Ya tampoco es usual preguntar ¿Cómo estás?  Ahora la mayoría de las personas pregunta:  “¿Estás bien?”  Como vivimos tan de prisa, la pregunta y la contestación vienen juntas, en combo. Y, como después de todo, a muchos de los que preguntan en realidad no les interesa la contestación, pues hacemos la pregunta y seguimos caminando, o hablando o lo que sea que estemos haciendo y nos interese más.  Además, si nos contestan podríamos correr el riesgo de que se entable una conversación y eso no puede ser.  Normal.

Quizás me complico la vida profundizando en estas cosas.  Pero lo cierto es que me imagino situaciones en las que “normal” sea el protagonista, y me espanto. Por ejemplo, acudo a Sala de Emergencias con un ataque de asma.  Cuando me atienden después de un buen rato esperando -normal-, me hacen preguntas sobre mis síntomas y malestares, y a todo contesto:  normal.  Quiero comprar una propiedad, asisto a entrevistas para solicitar financiamiento, y a las preguntas sobre mi ingreso y otros datos importantes contesto:  normal.  En una entrevista de trabajo, obviamente el empleador tendrá preguntas importantes para determinar si soy la persona ideal para el puesto.  Y yo, ni corta ni perezosa, a todo le contesto:  normal.  ¿Qué resultados podrán tener estas situaciones hipotéticas pero a la vez muy cotidianas, cuando la acción depende de la contestación y la información que suministremos?

En el caso de la Sala de Emergencias, si estoy normal, no necesito visitarla.  Así es que me darán de alta al primer normal.  Morí de un ataque de asma, por estar normal.  Para la compra de la propiedad, pues dependerá del análisis del entrevistador.  Para muchos es normal que las personas quieran comprar sin contar con ingresos suficientes, que tengan mal crédito, que sean irresponsables. Ya sabemos el resultado:   nos denegarán la solicitud y a vivir debajo de un puente.  En cuanto a la entrevista de trabajo, qué pena, tenemos demasiados normales, ya no queremos más.  Todo resultará al contrario de lo que deseamos y necesitamos.  Normal.

En realidad quisiera entender qué es lo que quieren decir las personas que insisten en “normal” como contestación para casi todo.

Escuché una vez que la comunicación efectiva ocurre cuando uno habla, uno o más escuchan, y todos se entienden.  Una de las definiciones de la Real Academia Española es:  Transmitir señales mediante un código común al emisor y al receptor.  No, “normal” usado como hemos comentado, no llena estos requisitos.

Mi triste conclusión:  Parece que ya llegamos a ese tiempo temido por unos y anunciado por otros en que hacemos tantas señas, abreviamos tanto, dependemos tanto de la tecnología, que ya no sabemos hablar.  Corrijo, no sabemos comunicarnos.  Tenemos vocabulario y contamos con la capacidad de pronunciar, pero no nos entendemos, no transmitimos lo que queremos decir. Normal.

¿Habrá solución?
